~Looking for Inspiration~

Hello friends! Geesh its been a while since I've posted anything. I guess everyday life has a way of taking control of things for us without our consent. We have been a very busy household as of late. We are constantly on the move. It seems like there is no quiet time for us these days.

I'm sitting here now looking out my window wondering how fall has crept up on us so quickly. We have had rain on and off for the last 4 days and I notice some changes starting to take place with the trees. Fall is my favorite time of year but I'm just not ready for it to be here just yet.

Well moving right along to the point of my post. I've been looking at a bunch of interior window shutters I have stacked in my garage racking my brain to come up with a use for them. I've come up with the idea of shelves, box type stands and maybe a small table. I need ideas that won't take too much carpentry skills to put together. I am not very crafty nor do I work well with tools. I'm willing to try though as long as it isn't too complicated. I suppose the shutters really don't even need made into anything. I'll even take ideas on how to display them to add character to a particular setting. I have various shutters to work with as well. Some are taller than others and some are wide and some are skinny.

I borrowed these pictures from the Internet of some of the things I find interesting but they really aren't grabbing me they way I want them too. There has to be other uses that some of you ladies have created. Maybe I'm wishing for too much here but I know there are some talented bloggers out there and someone will have a perfect idea for me.

This looks like maybe it would be the easiest to make. You could take a regular shelf and nail it on the top of your shutter. I bet you could even add pegs to the bottom of it as well.

This is probably my most favorite piece. I would have to make it smaller because I don't have a shutter as large as the top of this one. Still it would make a nice side table.

I don't totally love this idea. It just looks too much like shutters to me.

This is nice and doesn't look like it would be too complicated to put together either. I bet if I had wide enough shutters I could make a garbage can out of it too with a removable top instead of the open door.

Hopefully one of you ladies can give me some guidance and suggestions. I look forward to anything you have to offer. If you do have pictures, please email them to me. I would love to see what you have created.

I hope everyone has a fabulous weekend. Hopefully the sun is shining where you are and the rain is holding off.

Warm hugs and blessings to all,

AMY

  1. Amy, I have seen them done like this bottom picture, with a square piece of glass of glass on the top for a side table or it could be like
the one in the picture with a fern on it....I liked the fire screen, I might try that, I have some shutters in the shed, but first I need to finish the kitchen, which is going to take awhile.
    Good luck! Missed you....

  2. Mornin' Amy!...it has been pouring bucket here in Central Virginia too but today it's looking like the worst might be over! :::knock on wood::: ...as for the shutters, I'm afraid I don't have any ideas or suggestions as I am not creative or inventive in that way!...have fun with the project though whatever you decide on!

  3. hi, Amy~
Wonderful ideas you found for shutter~love the one's in front of the fireplace~ If you have any large door one's I have seen them placed in corners & deorated like a door~
I think hanging one would be cute like in the one photo & decorating for fall~ bittersweet drapping over it~ samplers would be cute to display on it~ or even a doll, pumpkin, crow, something handmade~
Well I am excited to see what you come up with~

  4. Hi Amy. Maybe you could attach the shutters to a redo piece. It looks like they may have covered an old coffee table in the photo of your favorite piece.

  5. Good to see you back!!

Love all the shutter pictures. Some folks are just so clever, and I'm glad they share their ideas for people like me who copy. Wish I could help you with how do work these ideas up, but I know nothing about carpentry.

There is a darling house down the road from us with wonderful perennial gardens. She has an old shutter with a star nailed on it just leaning against her house in the back of one garden. Just simple and so dang cute.

Hope you'll be blogging again, friend.

  6. Hi Amy,
I have seen pics where they took cloth and attached it to the sides and bottom, about halfway up and filled with seasonal flowers etc. I have an old shutter I plan to do that with.
Hope it makes sense. If not I'll try to find the pic, just let me know.
    Blessings,
    Lorna

  10. Hi Amy,
Well I love the ideas you have shown us here - you won't get much help from me because I'm not good with wood and ideas but I just know you will get some great suggestions. And you might just combine an idea of a couple of the pictures and design something quite creative.

  11. Garbage can would be cool. I had a set of swinging bar doors. Maybe that is what the larger one on top table could be. I would love to see what you come up with . Blessings!
