German Twig Tree Question??

Ladies I am looking to change up my choice of Christmas Trees this year. I want my trees to have more of a primitive appearance. I decided to go with the German Twig or German Vienna Twig Tree. I have searched the Internet for days looking for the best price and so far I am leaning towards http://www.christmascentral.com/. Here is a tree from their site.
It looks like what I am looking for but it says in the description it has green and brown branches. I thought German Twig Trees had all brown branches. Does anyone out there use this kind of tree at Christmas? Do you know of a better site to purchase these trees from maybe? The 5 foot tree is $59.99 and the 6 foot tree is $84.99. I am wanting one of each size. This was the most reasonably priced site I found for these trees. My vision is to adorn my trees with the brown cord lights, popcorn and berry garland (which is another item I am searching for at a discount price) and dried fruits (again another needed item).

Let me know what you think about this tree and if you have any suggestions for where I might look further. I believe the shipping was free on this site but I will look that over better if I order from there.

Have a fabulous day everyone and I am praying that all my blogging friends are safe after all the storms that have been hitting everywhere.

Blessings,
AMY

*** I FORGOT TO ADD THAT I WILL BE HANGING MY CINNAMON ICICLES THAT I BOTH WON AND PURCHASED FROM MELISSA AT FARM FIELD PRIMITIVE GOODS ON MY TREE AS WELL. THEY ARE FABULOUS!!

  1. Hi Amy,

I got mine from The Country Store of Geneva. You could check out their website. I love mine, and can't wait until Thanksgiving to put it up. I haven't seen any tree that is just pure brown. Mine is green with bits of brown and then brown twigs.

As for the garland, the store mentioned above has it, but I've also seen it them on ebay. And the dried fruit? Why don't you make your own? I'm making dried orange slices for mine, and its much cheaper than buying the pre-dried online. Hope this helps!

  2. Amy, I have had this same tree for at least 15 years. It does have some green wrapped in with the brown on the branches. Mine also has brown twigs (wire) that are protruding out of all the branches. Some of these I swirl around my finger and some I leave straight. I like my tree and leave it up year around. Where do you find the brown corded tree strands? I just recently did the silicone light strands and really like them with the tree. Jan Goos

  3. Amy~ It sounds like a good price to me.My little sparse twig tree was like $90 and is only about 6 ft. I'm with C dry yor own fruit.Oranges are so easy just dry in about a 225 degree oven on a cookie sheet, and apples just dip on a little lemon juice (make sure it's real lemon juice in the bottle) with a little salt and dry the same way.Dried cranberries (craisins) can be purchased at the grocery store and strung (good thing to do while watching TV) Harvest Blessings!~Amy

  4. Thanks ladies for your input. C form Cali, I have dried my own oranges before but sometimes they get a little black and its okay for bowl fillers but I don't think it would look good on my tree. Any suggestions to stop the black? Jan Goos I got my first lights from a craft store called Pat Catans but the website of the trees has them as well. If you look there, go to the end of the page, they have some on sale. 100 for $8.99 and 50 for $5.99.

  5. Thanks Amy for your input. I just lay my orange slices out and let them dry on their own. Maybe the oven method is the route to go. I never thought about drying apples for my tree either. Thanks so much.

  6. Amy,

These are the directions I used:
    http://www.diylife.com/2007/12/12/orange-slices-make-fragrant-and-pretty-christmas-ornaments/

I didn't use the Cinnamon, and haven't tried placing them directly on the rack. The trick is to keep a close eye on them so they don't burn, and use a non stick spray so you don't tear them apart when you take them off the pan. Been there, done that! :D

Mine stayed nice and pretty, and when not on my tree, I keep them in a jar in my kitchen so they get double duty!

I would also like to suggest Primitive Gingerbread men. They would look so cute on your tree. Here's a link!

  8. I know nothing about trees. I just use numerous small ones these days. I use the cardinals and nests you can find almost everywhere. I agree about dried apples and oranges. I'm thinking if you can find those miniature pear gourds dried, they would look good as ornaments or on a garland. I also like my cinnamon/applesauce ornaments that we roll and cut with cookie cutters and homespun ribbons.. You can paint these and seal with mod podge, as well. I saw cinnamon icicles, too. Mine are crystal and very old. Salt dough is another option. Sparse decorations is probably better. Theme trees are another idea.

  11. I found a 7 ft. german twig tree at my local goodwill 2 years ago for $2.99!!! Yes I did say $2.99!!!...It was in excellent shape and it does have green and brown branches....I don't think they are all brown...they are more sparse with thickness...but, that is what I love about them most!

  12. Amy, these trees are so beautiful! Although I love the primitive look, sometimes it too much of a stretch for my husband; so we stick to a traditional tree.

I can't wait to see yours decorated.

  14. Hi Amy, thank you for your recent comment on the Creamy Chicken Tortilla soup recipe on the MGCC blog. I hope you will be able to enjoy it soon. Sorry that I can't give any suggestions about the tree. I do think it will really look cool with your idea of decorating it :0)

  18. Amy - if you haven't ordered already - check out www.csnstores.com. They have the exact same tree as you show above for a little less. I don't know if you want them prelit or not. It appears they only have the 6 foot in unlit and it is $65.00. The 6 foot prelit is $109.00. The 5 foot prelit is $79.00. I just ordered a 7' prelit for $139.00 with free shipping! Melissa

Hi Amy, if you dry your orange and apple slices in a food dehydrator, they won't blacken. I lay them on a small, glass dish and sprinkle the slices with cinnamon, for a "grungy, prim" effect. I do not use lemon juice on the apple slices, unless I want them white. I also have a German Twig, bought from the Geneva website. However, this year I ordered several from a wholesale site...$49.99 for 6 ft.
